Putting the TV in the right scene: Digital television is not so easy

For most people, the TV is on a sideboard or a specially purchased TV table. This may even offer a compartment for the remote control or for the TV newspaper. However, the TV is not always optimal for this.

Optimal height and seat distance TV

Often the height does not fit properly. After a long TV evening, it can happen that the neck hurts because the head had to be raised too high or lowered too low. True, with modern flat-screen TVs, the viewing angle no longer plays a big role. But the highest image quality is still achieved when you can look directly at the image. That’s why TV wall mounts are a great way to mount the TV at an optimal height.

Choosing the Right TV Wall Mount

There are numerous different models to choose from. This can sometimes be a little confusing. A very important criterion in the Choosing a TV wall mount is the size of the TV. Modern flat screen TVs do not weigh nearly as much as the historical tube devices, but a couple of kilograms will still put you on the scales. That’s why it makes a difference whether you have a compact TV with a screen diagonal of 60 or 160 centimeters.

Once you have made this decision, you are still further selection criteria are available. There are quite simply constructed rigid TV wall mounts. These are very inexpensive and are very suitable, especially if the TV should always take a fixed position anyway. But there are also some models that are provided with one or more joints.

Some brackets have up to three pivotable joints. These offer you the opportunity to pull the TV further away from the wall, so that it is located much lower in the room. In addition, it is easily possible to position the TV either slightly to the left or to the right. Such a TV wall mount offers you a particularly high degree of flexibility.

Another feature is vertical panning. This option is advantageous if you would like to mount your TV a little higher on the wall. Another situation is when you would like to watch TV in the bedroom or lie on the couch in the living room. It is also advantageous in these situations if the device can be pivoted a little vertically.

VESA TV Wall Mount

In addition to the size, the type of the respective device also plays a role in choosing a suitable TV wall mount. In some cases, there are special versions for very specific TV models. Numerous televisions from different manufacturers have the so-called VESA suspension. You can recognize these by the fact that there are two strips with numerous threaded holes on the back of the housing.

The VESA TV wall mount comes with matching rails that you can attach to it. The assembly is not difficult and even skilled amateurs succeed. After you have mounted the bracket on the wall, hang the TV with the previously screwed-on rails in the receptacle of the TV wall bracket. This is done very easily and quickly.

Mount the TV wall bracket at the appropriate height

The biggest challenge is to find the perfect height for mounting the TV wall mount. However, there can be no flat-rate values for this, because the optimal suspension height depends on several factors. Particularly important measurements are the distance from your preferred seat to the TV. Other important factors are the seat height and the sitting position. If you are lying comfortably in a TV chair or on the sofa, then you have a different position than when sitting upright on a chair.

It is particularly easy to determine the ideal mounting height by measuring the height of the eyes from the floor in your preferred TV position. You then draw this height on the wall on which the TV wall bracket is to be attached. This marker then represents the center of the screen. However, this does not mean that you should attach the wall mount so that the line actually coincides with the center of the screen. It is more pleasant if the TV is mounted a little bit lower. The background is that when watching a movie in a relaxed way, the gaze always wanders slightly downwards.

Sometimes it is desirable that the screen is mounted a little higher after all. This is often desired in a kitchen. This is where they spend most of their time preparing food. Therefore, in this case, of course, you can mount the device at a height that is not so suitable for a sitting position.

The perfect distance between the seat and the screen

Basically, it is the case that with increasing screen size, the distance to the seat should also be longer. But there is now also a very interesting rule of thumb, according to which you can determine the ideal distance yourself. The formula says that the distance to the screen can be calculated by multiplying the screen diagonal by a factor of 2.1. Accordingly, for a TV with a screen diagonal of 46 inches, it would be 46 x 2.1 = 96.6. However, this value is indicated in inches. The conversion factor from inches to centimeters is 2.54, so the result is 96.6 x 2.54 = 2.4536, that is, about 2.45 meters.

If you can’t see everything exactly at this distance, move a little closer to the TV. They do not cause any damage to their eyes. If the distance is too small, the only problem is that the individual pixels might appear. Probably no one wants that.

Observe the following during installation

It is very important that the assembly can be carried out safely. It would be fatal if the bracket comes off and the device then falls down and is severely damaged as a result. That’s why you should make sure of the condition of the wall before attaching the TV bracket. There are usually no problems with a wall or a solid concrete wall. You can do the job very easily if you mark the holes on the wall with the help of a drilling template. There they drill holes in it with an impact drill. The drilling depth should necessarily match the length of the dowels. Finally, all you have to do is fasten the wall mount for your TV with screws.

However, if you would like to attach the TV bracket to a subsequently installed lightweight wall, you should proceed a little differently. Such partition walls usually consist of plasterboard, which are colloquially often referred to as plasterboard. These usually do not withstand the weight of the TV. But even this is not a problem. Special trusses are available for such cases.

What are the advantages of a TV wall mount?

If the TV is mounted on the wall with a bracket, then the sideboard or another piece of furniture on which the device otherwise stood can be used for other purposes. For example, decorative items or other beautiful things can be arranged on it. In addition, the TV can also be mounted on a wall where there is no other piece of furniture. A bracket for wall mounting therefore offers a very high degree of flexibility. The TV can be attached exactly where it fits best and does not necessarily have to stand in a place where there happens to be a piece of furniture.

There is one aspect that should not be ignored. A TV wall mount not only provides a useful purpose. It can also be very decorative. Meanwhile, there are many beautiful models in attractive designs to choose from. Therefore, not only technical data is important in the selection, but also the design plays a role. Viewed directly from the front, nothing can be seen from the suspension, but from the side. This is especially the case when the device does not hang tightly on the wall, but stands out a little further.
